MINUTES
OF THE NATIONAL TRUCK-IN BOARDâ FEBRUARY 2004
TAMPA, FL
The meeting was called to order
at 8:20 AM.
Those
present were Howard, Charlotte, Joe, Coop, Ray, Judith, Chris, Nancy, Gary, Lew,
and Dave. Also present were Paul Wack, Tim Ebright, Geoff & Sonya Koome.
We had no treasurer’s report,
as the treasurer was not present.
The first
order of business was addressing the fact that Lynn has tendered his
resignation from the board. He would be willing to stay on as treasurer if
needed but felt with his job he cannot make the eVANts and could not fulfill
his obligations.
Judith was elected
Chairperson/Secretary.
How to replace Lynn: Coop
feels very strongly that Chris step into the job as that what the alternate
should do. Chris is not ready to do that currently. Lynn gave a list of who he
felt would do a good job. Paul Wacko, Beer Bob, Kathy Willis, Bill Seward, and
Tom Chronister were named. Both Paul and Tim Ebright would like to fill this
position.
After much discussion it was
decide that we would make an announcement on the floor at Saturdays meeting
stating that we would be accepting applications in the form of a Resume from
Vanners who would like to be considered for a position on the board. The
Resumes must be submitted by June 1st.
Coop, Charlotte, Dave, and
Woodstock will put together a Board Guideline. We will vote on the guidelines
tonight. One of the guidelines will be that an alternate and member must attend
at least the Nationals or the Council of Councils Nationals committee meeting
in any given year.
The magazines are now showing vans
and promoting the van as the next vehicle. Joe brought a storyboard to
illustrate the magazines move in this direction. Howard brought an article from
Auto Week written by Steve Thompson. We will put a copy of the article in the
Rep folder. We need to be the in the mix from the start to guide it into our
direction. The magazines are now sitting on coffee table all over the US and
vehicle enthusiast are thinking about joining our sport but know nothing about
it. By guiding the magazines in our directions, we may get new enthusiast
members. We need to have the Van as the focus and the party as the secondary
item. Tim will chair this committee; Lew, Howard and Coop, Geoff and Nancy will
assist Tim in this endeavor.
The results of the Motor Home
survey are in. The question reads as follows: “Motor Homes should be allowed in
the Nationals if they are towing a Van”. Results were 49 for/ 85 against and 6
maybe. There were 428 vans at last year’s Nationalsâ the total number of votes was 140. If you take the number of
vans multiplied by an average 2 ½ person (1072) this represents 7.6% of the
Vanners present, took the time to come to the table set up to fill out the
survey. We had the table set up for approximately 15 hours during the eVANt.
A committee headed by Coop,
Howard, Charlotte, and Dave drafted a set of National Truck-in Board Inc.
By-laws. After the by-laws were read Woodstock made a motion that they be
approved as read. Dave seconded this. The Vote was unanimous. See the attached
By-laws.
Donny Noone came in and gave us an update on the 2003
Nats. They were able to give us the
$1.00 per van and make a
donation to next year’s Nationals. The early band had extremely low attendance
and he recommended that the early band be eliminated to save money.
Boski came in to do the update
on 2004. There was discussion about the Nats ad not being in color in the C of
C bible. The issue of electric was addressed. We were assured that there would
be enough electric if everyone were conservative. They are giving away a
medallion for anyone who pre-registered this weekend. No ringers will be in the
midnight show per Boski.
Bid for 2005.
VA Bid Pam Myers and Lew
Greger came in to make the bid. It would be held at Harrisonburg on July 20-24.
The grounds have many improvements. The theme would be Return to the Roaring
Twenties.
PA bid was presented by Dan
(Dimples) Richard, Greg Walleigh, Chas Woelflel of Performance Inc. and Kevin
LeVan, Dennis Griffith and John Morissette of Moon Lite Vans It would be held
on July 6-10 in Summit Station PA, the grounds have been seen by Dave who said
they would be good for the Nats.
Both bids were equal, grounds,
host, etc. The difference was the dates. After much discussion the Vote was taken,
and PA won. Judith and Dave were assigned to let both groups know the outcome.
